Todd Cantwell has shared his thoughts on Rangers giving Celtic a guard of honour after they won the Scottish Premiership title.
Michael Beale takes on Ange Postecoglou at Ibrox on Saturday in the first round of fixtures since Celtic became champions, following their 2-0 win over Hearts last Sunday.
Traditionally, the title winners in any league are given a guard of honour by their opponents.
However – as stated by Todd Cantwell – Rangers are unlikely to do that this weekend.
Rangers vs Celtic Guard of Honour
Well, the Rangers No.13 admitted he doesn’t think Celtic would give the Gers a guard of honour if the shoe was on the other foot this weekend, so the Englishman is doubtful that he and his teammates will honour their rivals.
As quoted by Clyde1, Cantwell said: “To be honest, I think with the rivalry, I can’t imagine them doing that for us. I don’t know, but I can’t imagine that’s (ever) happened, so I would probably suggest that it wouldn’t (happen on Saturday)”
Cantwell doesn’t need to imagine – Celtic factually did not give Rangers a guard of honour when Steven Gerrard guided the Gers to their 55th title in 2021.
It came after Rangers opted not to give their rivals one in 2019.
At the time, Gerrard told The Athletic: “The club have made a decision on that and decided there won’t be a guard of honour, so my thoughts are irrelevant. I will follow what I’m told to do by the people in charge of the club.”
In our view, it would be weird if Rangers now decided to start giving Celtic a guard of honour after years of both sides refusing to do so.
Therefore, it is best that Cantwell’s suggestion comes true, and Rangers do not honour their rivals with a guard of honour.

Respect goes both ways.
Had Celtic decided to go against the grain and give Rangers a guard of honour in the 2020/21 season, then maybe Beale should consider it.
However, the line has been drawn, and we can’t ever see it changing.
