Sky Sports will screen three Rangers matches in August as they unveil the first 13 televised ties of the season.

Rangers’ opening day match with Aberdeen on Saturday 1st of August will be screened live at 5:30pm as the Gers kick off the Premiership season with a showpiece tie.

Gers fans will need to wait two weeks to see their side in action on Sky Sports again with Rangers’ Sunday, August 16th tie with Livingston and the club’s August 29th trip to Hamilton scheduled for live broadcasting.

Rivals Celtic will be included in four matches including, peculiarly, their opening day home match against Hamilton.

Ordinarily, Rangers and Celtic’s home matches are not covered by broadcasters but in this instance and with the backdrop of coronavirus this appears to be an exception.

Rangers’ season ticket holders will be safe in the knowledge that if they cannot make it into the stadium they will be given special virtual match passes from RangersTV.

There has been controversy surrounding the SPFL’s decision to grant Celtic their wish and schedule the first Old Firm of the season at the latest possible date [17th October] to allow fans to take part.

However, there are no guarantees that fans will be allowed in the stadium by then with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon saying that at this stage this has not been “pencilled in”.

Rangers’ tie with Aberdeen is also set to be the main event as BBC Scotland launches a new Saturday night highlights programme this season.
