The futures of former Rangers stars Kyle Lafferty, Chris Burke and Kirk Broadfoot are uncertain following Kilmarnock’s shock relegation from the Premiership.

Lafferty has found it hard to settle since his second spell at Ibrox ended in 2019.

Following brief stints at Sarpsborg, Sunderland and Reggina, he joined Kilmarnock on a short-term deal in February and was tasked with keeping them in the top flight.

Ultimately, Killie were relegated via a 4-2 aggregate playoff defeat to Dundee earlier this week but the blame certainly can’t be levelled at Lafferty.

He’s scored 13 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions for the Ayrshire club, as well as notching three assists.

Killie have since confirmed that the former Ger will be offered a contract extension but manager Tommy Wright has said: “I don’t think he’ll be with us [next season]. I’d like him here but we’ll have to wait and see” [BBC Sport].

It would be a surprise if the 33-year-old opted to play Championship football after proving that he can still be extremely effective in the top flight.

There’s also uncertainty around fellow former Rangers players Chris Burke and Kirk Broadfoot, who are ‘considering the next step in their careers’ [Kilmarnockfc.co.uk].

Burke, 37, contributed a very respectable nine goals and nine assists this season while Broadfoot, 36, made 37 appearances at centre-back and captained the club briefly during the middle of the campaign.

At least 14 players will leave Rugby Park this summer, with four loanees returning to their parent clubs and ten other players, including club captain Gary Dicker, being released.

Killie finished the 2018/19 campaign in third place and came eighth last season, so their drop to the second tier comes as a considerable shock.

In other news, Rangers saw their world record equalled on Tuesday night with a former Ger making a big contribution.
