Ex-Rangers trio Derek McInnes, Lewis Mayo, and Greg Stewart have helped Kilmarnock to hold Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers now have the chance to go two points clear at the top of the Scottish top flight in this afternoon’s clash against St Johnstone in Perth.

This comes after teenage midfielder David Watson scored an injury-time equaliser at Celtic Park to force a 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw against the Parkhead side.

Kyogo Furuhashi had given Celtic a first-half lead but a nervous display has heaped the pressure on our Old Firm rivals.

And we’ve got three ex-Rangers stars to thank with Lewis Mayo starting the match, Greg Stewart coming off the bench, and Derek McInnes guiding Kilmarnock to their third major result of the season v Celtic.

Ex-Rangers trio deliver Celtic v Kilmarnock boost

After defeating Rangers on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership, Derek McInnes has knocked Celtic out of the League Cup and taken five points off them in the top flight.

Speaking after the match, ex-Ibrox midfielder McInnes lauded his Kilmarnock charges and claimed he got what he “expected” from his side.

Rangers Academy graduate Lewis Mayo has also taken to social media after the game to celebrate the victory.

Having moved on loan to Killie last season, the 23-year-old defender completed a permanent switch in the summer and has impressed in Ayrshire.

Taking to social media platform X, Mayo branded the result against Celtic a “great point” from a Kilmarnock perspective.

Greg Stewart goad Parkhead fans

The most notable reaction however was that of ex-Rangers attacker Greg Stewart, who is a passionate bluenose.

As the Kilmarnock team celebrated their last minute equaliser against Celtic, Stewart was clipped celebrating with his teammates by the official Kilmarnock X account.

However the cameras also caught the 33-year-old cheekily wafting his nose in a wind-up to the Celtic fans.

Greg Stewart joined Kilmarnock in the January window after leaving Indian Super League side Mumbai City.

Rangers fans will thank the Ibrox connection at Kilmarnock for doing the business against Celtic.

But any celebrations from within Rangers will be mooted until after the club’s visit to St Johnstone and McDiarmid Park.
