Any notion of a title race went out with a whimper last night as the Gers toiled in Edinburgh.
But make no mistake – we were let down by some weak officiating and yet again, the major decisions going against us. It’s embarrassing and unfortunately doesn’t seem like it’s going to end anytime soon.
But it’s too easy to blame the refs. The reality is, this Rangers side have flopped at every opportunity when asked to stand up the club. These players don’t deserve a title race, they’ve done nothing to earn it.
Save that Old Firm result in December, or even the Aberdeen result in February, we’ve went down like a damp squib in the league. Time after time.
The only thing that has prevented Rangers winning the league this year is Rangers. With Celtic seemingly in turmoil, not one of those players has had the gumption to take advantage. Not one.
How many chances have they had to take advantage all season? Once again, this squad of players failed to rise to the occasion last night. They let the fans down, they let Gerrard down and they let themselves down. We’ve recklessly thrown points away at Killie, Hibs, Livi, Motherwell, St. Johnstone, Dundee – the list feels neverending.
Not once in the Scottish Premiership have this side proved their salt. Should Celtic win today, we’ve lost ten points on them since January. Granted three of those were a game in hand.
That’s not good enough for a Rangers team. No matter the backdrop.
Gerrard’s Rangers have proved time and again that they do not have what it takes as soon as the pressure increases.
They’ve proved time and again they don’t deserve to be in the title race.
