Rangers may have just appointed Philippe Clement but Stephen Robinson is already being backed to become boss down the line.
Rangers have their new manager in place having sacked Michael Beale earlier this month.
Belgian boss Philippe Clement is in, penning a three-and-a-half-year deal at Ibrox.
The hope is that Clement can bring some stability to the Rangers dugout after the brief reigns of Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Clement is only just getting down to work at Rangers but another manager has already been backed for a move to Ibrox…
Peter Hartley backs Stephen Robinson for Rangers move
Former Motherwell defender Peter Hartley is now tipping his old Fir Park boss Stephen Robinson for a move to Rangers one day.
Robinson has impressed in charge of St Mirren and currently has the Buddies sitting third in the Scottish Premiership table with just one defeat so far this season.
Hartley remains a big fan having reached two cup finals with Motherwell, but has now made the rather lofty claim that Robinson could manage Rangers.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Hartley admitted that he believes Robinson will take St Mirren into Europe – and thinks that he could manage Rangers down the line.
Hartley thinks Robinson is suitable for the job thanks to his tactical ability and his leadership qualities, believing he deserves to be considered by the Gers.
“St Mirren are going to be there or thereabouts for Europe now with him there as manager. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Rangers in four or five years,” said Robinson. “Tactically, as a person and leader, he’s more than capable of leading a team like Rangers,” he added.

We can’t see Robinson at Rangers
This tends to happen fairly regularly; Derek McInnes and David Martindale have been similarly touted for the Rangers job in recent times.
Robinson fits a similar mould; doing a fantastic job on a budget but maybe not quite cut out for the Rangers job.
The increase in pressure is immense and Robinson hasn’t experienced anything like it in his managerial career to date.
Robinson struggled at Oldham Athletic before a strong spell at Motherwell, only to then struggle again with Morecambe.
Robinson has done a fine job at St Mirren but is this really the track record of somebody lined up for the Rangers hot seat?
Just look at Clement’s CV; three title wins in Belgium and a stint with a top Ligue 1 side in Monaco.
Maybe Robinson will prove himself as the man for Rangers in the future but, if we had to make a prediction right now, we would suggest a deal is unlikely.
