Rangers fans have been calling out former Celtic striker Chris Sutton for conflicting comments concerning the English and Scottish title races in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
After Neil Lennon entered Celtic’s case in a rather desperate party-political broadcast yesterday afternoon [PLZ Soccer] in steps the former striker, right on cue.
Despite raising doubts over the legitimacy of Liverpool being awarded the title in a column for the Daily Mail, he’s quite happy to say that Celtic should get the award in another for the Daily Record.
In the most predictable comments since that of, well, Neil Lennon himself, Sutton says relegating Hearts and crowning Celtic champions “is the only sensible move”.
In the midst of a global pandemic, Sutton claims that relegation for teams currently sitting bottom of their respective domestic tables is “just the way it is”.
Just as well the likes of Chris Sutton aren’t in charge of making sense of the giant sporting mess generated by the infection.
Leagues across Europe have put their campaigns on hold as the virus threatens to have a massive impact on everyday life in the west.
There is every chance league campaigns will be cancelled across Europe, whilst plans are also being considered for how to eventually play the matches.
But with reports suggesting the shutdown could last until August [Daily Record], such a situation could force this campaign to run into the next.
It appears that Sutton wants former team Celtic to be handed the title up north, whilst former side Norwich – currently 20th of 20 teams – is spared relegation in the Premier League.
Luckily, what Chris Sutton wants holds very little relevance when it comes to these matters.
