Confusion reigns amid contradictory reports concerning Rangers’ interest in Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson.

Whilst some reports are claiming a deal has been struck and the player is set for a move to Ibrox, others have claimed that the two parties have not yet agreed a fee for the player.

Neither report refutes the notion that the Ibrox side is interested in the player with one report even claiming the Gers could spend up to £3m on the player [Deepdale Digest].

With a year left on his current contract and having never played top tier football, some Gers fans might view this as a considerable outlay for a 27-year-old midfielder.

Couple all this with the fact Preston boss Alex Neil claimed the player could be selected for their EFL Cup tie to Derby this week and the deal looks up in the air.

Somewhat of an unknown quantity, Gers fans with little knowledge of the Championship will have by now heard about his penalty-taking ability and penchant for a shot at the edge of the box.

Johnson also hit twelve goals and laid on eight assists in 33 Championship games last season, inspiring Preston to punch above their weight and earn an admirable 9th place finish.

There’s little doubt that these goals from midfield are something the Glasgow club lack but given the recent midfielders linked to Ibrox this flashy, creative player appears somewhat of a deviation.

That’s not to say that the Gers aren’t looking to add more players to the team but a deal for Johnson appears to have been stepped up as injuries take their toll at Ibrox, most saliently to Joe Aribo.

But with little known about Johnson up north, perhaps we can turn to a group of supporters who know more about the midfielder than anyone else.

For a player marked out as the Lancashire club’s talisman, how are the Lilywhites’ supporters reacting to the news their star man could be about to join Rangers?

Well the player is very highly thought of in Lancashire and many Preston fans are reeling at the suggestion he could move to Rangers for a cut-price fee.
