There will be at least one title defining Old Firm this season

Some of the more optimistic Rangers fans out there might harbour hopes of a title defining Old Firm to come this season.

Many others think it’s probably already been. But whatever happens between now and the end of the season with the top team, there will be at least one title-defining match between the two rivals.

This Monday in the Reserves League there will be a derby between the two sides with an extra special twist. If Rangers win, they’ll leapfrog Celtic into first in the table with two games to go.

Our rivals currently sit top of the Reserves League on 32 points with 14 games played. We sit 4th, three points behind them. We also have a game on hand on 2nd and 3rd placed Motherwell and Hibs, who’ve played 15 games.

The match was teed up by a stunning 3-2 victory for the reserves side against their Hibs equivalents yesterday.

Rangers were trailing 2-0, but inspired by Glenn Middleton, found a way back into the game. Young Stephen Kelly for the eventual winner five minutes from time after Middleton had scored a first-half double.

It sets up a tasty affair this coming Monday. Whilst there’s still a faint hope of a title defining Old Firm for the top team, there will definitely be one for the B side.

And it’ll probably be just as explosive.
