Rangers have chopped and changed so much this season it’s difficult to know whether Steven Gerrard himself knows Rangers strongest XI.
Rangers have used no fewer than 28 players already this term. We’ve also only played 27 matches.
The gaffer has set about trying to ensure the full squad is utilised whilst several youth players have got a run out.
Injuries have also meant some players have played more than would’ve originally been planned.
But when everyone is fit, is this Rangers strongest XI?
GK – Allan McGregor
Greegsy has to be the number one choice in goal and has shown his class plenty of times already this season. Has brought standards back to the GK position.
DR – James Tavernier
The flying wingback is massive for Rangers and contributes goals and assists aplenty from the right. Has also improved on the defensive side of his game this year.
DC – Connor Goldson
He’s been shaky in recent weeks, but the big Englishman is a stalwart with the heart of a lion at centre back. A massive signing and will continue to grow here.
DC – Nikola Katic
The Croatian has been off the boil recently after seeing himself being deposed by Joe Worrall. But on his day he’s unbeatable in the air and the stats don’t lie on his partnership with Goldson in early season. Gareth McAuley hasn’t played enough either. This is the most contentious position.
DL – Borna Barsisic
Seen as the perfect supplement to James Tavernier on the right, the Croatian international looked a steal at £2m but has been interrupted by injuries. Will be huge for us in the coming years.
CDM – Ryan Jack
Between Jack and Coulibaly in this position but where Coulibaly has dipped, Jack has come into his own. He’s looking more and more like a vital first teamer with every game. Another which is contentious.
CM – Scott Arfield
A creative pivot in midfield, Arfield brings energy, guile and quality in the middle of the park. He’s a leader and by a distance our strongest midfield player.
CM – Ovie Ejaria
Ovie is a superbly gifted footballer and at times eases through games. In others, he’s posted missing, but on his day he looks a class act. Only 20, the Liverpool loanee has a bright future in the game.
RW – Daniel Candeias
The Candyman was out at the weekend and Grezda impressed, but for the time being at least, he’s my first choice. A workhorse who is also good for a goal, he’ll give 100% every game. But will Grezda soon take his place?
ST – Alfredo Morelos
Our talisman and a superb talent, Morelos can fire this team to glory. Has improved massively this season and seems to score every game. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for him at Ibrox.
LW – Ryan Kent
Is Jamie Murphy hadn’t got injured, Ryan Kent would probably not be playing as much as he has been. But alas, the Liverpool loanee has grabbed it with both hands and now has pride of place in Rangers strongest XI.
