Jason Holt’s time at Fleetwood Town under Joey Barton can be described so far as a resounding success.
The Scottish midfielder, on-loan down south from Rangers, is a key cog in Barton’s engine room. Already, Holt has featured in eight matches for his new club, and bagged himself a goal already.
His performances at Barton’s side can certainly be described as impressive. Holt has been leading from the midfield, and is using all of his Rangers experience to get his new side off to a terrific start to the season. In the eight matches Holt has featured in, Fleetwood haven’t lost any of them.

Barton has already commented on the talented midfielder’s quality, and he’s one of the permanent fixtures in the side.
It’s an incredible story considering Holt was part of the Rangers squad when Barton slammed the quality of it. The former Rangers bad-boy has stated in the past that he was too good for Scotland’s level. It certainly appears that Holt holds no grudges over it, as the former Hearts man is thriving at his new club.
Can he be a success at Rangers?
More pertinently to Rangers fans, however, is whether he has a future when he returns in the summer. Unfortunately for Holt, it’s hard to give this idea the thumbs up.
Lassana Coulibaly and Ryan Jack are operating to extremely good effect in the area Holt would occupy. Despite the on-loan man’s clearly positive attributes, going from Coulibaly/Jack to Holt next season would be a let-down.
In truth, the midfielder has already had his shot of being a success with Rangers. Holt has had two campaigns to make himself a star in the centre of Rangers’ midfield in the Premiership.

Ultimately, Rangers need better than him if they’re to achieve their targets.
That’s nothing against Holt – he’s a fine grafter and always worked as hard as possible during his time at Ibrox. In reality, however, Rangers simply need better.
Every Rangers fan will be delighted that he’s enjoying his football once again, and hopefully it can be mad permanent in the summer. That would be the best scenario for all parties.
