Rangers go into this weekend’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts at Hampden looking to overcome some all-too-recent demons.
The club stumbled at this very stage against Aberdeen last season in what was a poor performance and even poorer result, and only a few weeks ago dropped two points at Tynecastle.
Revenge may well be in the air, but Steven Gerrard faces a pretty stiff dilemma ahead of the crunch tie at Hampden.
This is undeniably one of the biggest games of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers tenure and anything other than a victory would be a minor catastrophe for Rangers.
Hearts will be boisterous, physical and attempt to stay in the game for as long as possible.
So does Gerrard keep £3m man Filip Helander at the back or does he bring Nikola Katic back into the side?
The Gers boss spoke previously praised Katic for his physical capabilities – something which is essential in the battle with Hearts forward Uche Ikpeazu – but Helander has began to really settle into the side and is beginning to look every inch the Swedish international we signed.
This may well be one of the match-defining decisions and given the gravity of the match, it’ll be one which Steven Gerrard gives serious thought to in the coming days.
The upside? Both players are on very good form and the club’s supporters can be confident that no matter which one of them Gerrard picks, it’ll be the right one.
It’s simply got to be.
