Former Rangers player Wes Foderingham is earning rave reviews at Sheffield United as he finally gets a run in the side.
Foderingham spent five years at Ibrox after being signed from Swindon Town by Mark Warburton in 2015, making a total of 143 appearances for the Light Blues.
He was released in the summer of 2020 after spending his final two seasons at the club as Allan McGregor’s backup, and Steven Gerrard appeared to aim a dig at the Englishman after his departure by saying the selection dilemma that new no.2 Jon McLaughlin was giving him was “a headache I have wanted for a long time”.
After a short period as a free agent, he was snapped up by Sheffield United, but most of his first season and a half at Bramall Lane has been as a backup – firstly to Aaron Ramsdale and then to Robin Olsen.
Olsen has missed the Blades’ last four league matches, though, and Foderingham has taken his opportunity.
The former Ger recorded clean sheets in the first three matches against Coventry City, Reading and Bristol City and then produced an outstanding display at the weekend in a 3-2 win at Cardiff City.
United shared a highlights reel on Instagram on Monday that showed him pulling off several impressive one-handed stops and commanding his area.
The 30-year-old has had to be patient at the Yorkshire club but it’s going to be hard to displace him now and it’s fair to say that supporters are loving his work.
