Surprise Swiss package St. Gallen are in talks with Hibs over striker and reported Rangers target Florian Kamberi, according to the Scottish Sun.
Rangers have reportedly submitted a loan offer for Kamberi – which would see Greg Docherty go the other way – but Kamberi is said to be holding out for a permanent move.
The striker spent a brief spell at Ibrox between January and the shutdown and impressed during the opportunities he was given.
The striker described the transfer to Rangers as a “dream move” and in the process burned his bridges with the Hibs support.
Reports earlier in the summer suggested Kamberi, 25, would be available for a knockdown £150k fee but it appears Rangers would like another season with the player before offering a longer tenure.
If this is the move that Kamberi really wants then he may have to bide his time at Ibrox and prove he deserves a longer-term deal.
That’s if Hibs don’t opt to accept a monetary bid for his services on a full-time basis first.
St. Gallen want to become the only side other than Basel [11], Grasshoppers Zurich [3] and Rangers’ Euro opponents Young Boys [2] to win the Swiss Super League.
It would only be the third time the club from near Lake Constance has won the league title in their history and the first since 2001. The other was in 1904.
They currently sit a point clear of Young Boys with six games to go, with the final game of the season at the home of Rangers’ Europa League group rivals.
Should they lift the title they will be offered the chance to compete for a place in next season’s Champions League.
