Sunderland manager Lee Johnson and many fans of the club have praised Rangers loanee Jordan Jones for making a big impact off the bench in a 2-2 draw at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Jones was left out of the starting XI but introduced to the game on the hour mark with his side trailing 2-0.

He brought a spark to the visitors’ play and scored a stunning first goal for the club in the 76th minute before celebrating in Alfredo Morelos-esque fashion.

Chris Maguire equalised with a similarly brilliant strike in injury time and Johnson was blown away by the quality both players produced to snatch his team a point.

“Unbelievable strikes – top top strikes,” he said after the game. “In a game like that, unless you produce moments of magic like that, you can’t lift it.”

“I’m very very grateful, obviously, to the two players who have produced such unbelievable technique and I would have thought both of them will be on the goals of the season shortlist.”

Sunderland supporters were also delighted with Jones’ contribution and after he took to Twitter on Saturday night to celebrate his goal, many responded with praise.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

Jones had an excellent Saturday afternoon but the same can’t be said for all of Rangers’ loanees, with one sent off for the first time in his senior career and another on the losing side as the threat of relegation looms.
