Jon Flanagan has spoken out about his poor early season form, as quoted by the club’s website.
The 25-year-old moved to Ibrox last summer on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal with the Gers.

However, he failed to show any semblance of form during the first half of the season.
After a period out in the cold, he was brought back in as injuries and suspensions hit the squad and he’s taken his opportunity. Flanagan was even named in the SPFL Team of the Week after Saturday’s win at Tynecastle.

“It great to be back, the manager has put me back in and I have just loved every minute of it really”, said Flanagan as quoted by the club’s website.
“It was tough being out but that is football, you are not going to play every game, you are going to have dips, everyone knows that. When you are called upon you have to be ready.
“Everyone has dips in form and I know myself that when he took me out the team my performances weren’t up to my standards.
“I am the first to know when my performances aren’t right and it is the manager’s decision to take me out the team. You just have to work hard and wait for your opportunity to get back in.”

Verdict

It’s refreshing to see a player come out and be so open about his own performances. Flanagan offers no excuses, he simply admits he wasn’t good enough.
His circumstances have changed dramatically recently, and he deserves praise for grasping his second opportunity.
The left-back jersey is his for the time being, and it sounds as though he’s keen to keep it that way.
