Striker with Rangers buy-back clause vows to kick on after long-awaited injury comeback

Partick Thistle striker Zak Rudden, who has a Rangers buy-back clause in his contract, has vowed to kick on after making his long-awaited return from injury [Partick Thistle FC Twitter].

Rudden is a product of the Gers academy who starred across age-group levels before embarking on loan spells to Falkirk and Plymouth Argyle.

He scored in a pre-season friendly against Bury at Ibrox in 2018 but didn’t manage to make a senior competitive appearance for the club before joining the Jags on a permanent deal in January.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Thistle manager, Ian McCall, confirmed at the time that Rangers had inserted a buy-back clause into his contract that could be triggered after around 18 months, but he’s barely featured at Firhill due to a series of injury problems.

The 20-year-old’s most recent issue saw him sidelined for over two months, but he made a comeback as a 63rd-minute substitute during a 1-0 home defeat to Peterhead on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s good to get back,” he said after the game. “There’s been a lot of hard work in the gym and running to get myself back into this position.”

“It’s good to be back and now it’s time to kick on.”

Rudden has only made seven appearances in total since joining Thistle almost a year ago and he’s yet to get off the mark for the club.

The 6ft 2″ forward has got plenty of potential, though, and given his strong goalscoring record in the Championship with Falkirk during the 2018/19 season, he’ll fancy himself to net regularly in the third tier if he can string together a run of games.

Elsewhere, a highly-rated player who featured alongside Rudden at youth team level at Rangers is facing uncertainty after the manager of his loan club was sacked on Saturday, less than an hour after a home defeat.
