There is “still time” to complete the Bongani Zungu to Rangers deal amid rumours the transfer had collapsed, according to a journalist close to the story.

Joe Crann broke the story on Twitter in early July and has gone on to write extensively on the interest via the Scotsman, claiming a £3.8m fee had been agreed for the Amiens player.

However, rumours the deal had hit a snag begin emerging earlier in the day with Ibrox club insider Four Lads Had a Dream suggesting he’d heard “rumours” the deal had “collapsed”.

Despite Four Lads previously believing the deal seemed “almost inevitable”, an air of doubt has begun lingering over the move.

But now Crann has released another story via the Scotsman suggesting there is still time to salvage the deal with clubs in La Liga and Serie A watching on with intent.

Crann is adamant talks remain ongoing between both parties but reveals that there is still some work to do to salvage the deal.

Personal terms have not been finalised throwing the move into “doubt” with Crann confirming Zungu is still training with his Amiens teammates.

Whilst the reasons for the snag remain unknown, Crann is confident a deal can still be struck:

“At this point the actual reasons for the delay regarding Zungu and Rangers remain unknown, but the good news – for now at least – is that the move hasn’t collapsed, and that there’s still time to get a deal over the line if it suits all parties.”

Rangers have ramped up their transfer plans this week with the club securing Kemar Roofe from Anderlecht for an undisclosed fee.

Reports in Switzerland have also suggested that a deal for powerful striker Cedric Itten is “probably” going to happen [Tagblatt].
