Steven Robinson is a fiery character at the best of times. But he’s also gluttonous in his celebrations and doesn’t come across as the most sporting of winners, or losers as the case may be.
He’s ferocious and poorly tempered, and following Rangers 7-1 hammering of his Motherwell team, he took aim at Alfredo Morelos.
“The first booking is a disgrace, it’s embarrassing,” said the Motherwell manager.
“And I have to say, referees are getting conned by the same people continually. Certain players get away with certain things every week. They (referees) have a hard task.
“If you are getting fooled every week then it’s difficult for them. It wasn’t a free-kick in the first place, it certainly wasn’t a yellow card.”

He’s not fooling anyone. This is bitter and disgraceful and if the shoe was on the other foot, he’d be taking aim at Morelos calling him bad-tempered and a poor disciplinarian.
The truth is McHugh came flying into the back of him and was overdue a booking. Morelos didn’t react. Robinson would happily be getting Motherwell hyped up to do a hatchet job on the Colombian before the match in the hope that Morelos would.
Don’t go crying because it doesn’t work. Morelos has been the victim of brute physicality, wind-ups and grubby tactics since he joined Scottish football.
It seems like he can’t win. I can’t commend him enough for how he’s turned a corner with these tactics and is standing up to them. He was only giving as good as he got. He never even reacted when a coin was thrown at him against St. Mirren.
But what a reaction he had to McHugh’s sending off on Sunday.
What’s more, it just shows how much Alfredo doing his talking with his feet (or head) is riling up these Scottish Premiership outfits. It was one of their only ways of dealing with him before.
Let’s hope Morelos can keep it up.
As for Robinson, comments like his are the true disgrace. You don’t have the right to volley players up and down the pitch and then get angry when it backfires.
