Hearts manager Steven Naismith has provided an injury update on Rangers loanee Alex Lowry after a pressure-relieving win over Livingston.

The controversial former Ibrox striker was talking after his side’s 1-0 win over the Lions, Kenneth Vargas scoring his first goal for the Tynecastle club.

Rangers loanee Alex Lowry started the clash in Edinburgh but was forced off deep into injury time with Steven Naismith explaining after the match it was due to “concussion”.

The Hearts boss has also claimed that whilst he can’t provide an immediate update on the player’s situation, he does not expect the issue to be a major one.

“It was a concussion type situation so I think the doctor takes control of that,” Steven Naismith told Sky Sports.

“I’ve not actually spoke to him since but I’d imagine he’ll be fine.”

Alex Lowry unavailable for Steven Naismith v Rangers

Given Alex Lowry is on loan from Rangers, the attacking midfielder will not be available for Steven Naismith ahead of this weekend’s Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

The Gers are set to face off against the Jambos this coming Sunday (05/11) for the chance to win the first silverware of the Scottish footballing season.

The clash with Hearts also comes just a week after Rangers broke Steven Naismith’s heart with a late show at Ibrox which saw the club turn a 1-0 defeat into a 2-1 victory within minutes.

Rangers also go into the upcoming League Cup clash with Hearts at Hampden off the back of a victory with Brazilian striker Danilo once again stealing the show.

The forward netted a late winner against Hearts at Ibrox and was instrumental as Rangers ran out 5-0 victors over Dundee on a funny night at Dens Park.
