Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was known for being a motivational speaker, but he can’t stand a silver tongue.
The Liverpool legend has just about won it all in football. Inspiring Liverpool to the Champions League all those years ago, he’s certainly got a gift for motivation.
Rangers hero Archie Knox stated just a couple of days ago that he believed Gerrard was a throwback to the old school. It appears that the Rangers manager is also willing to embrace that new tag.

Gerrard is fed up of coaches who think they can talk the talk but not walk the walk. According to the Gers boss, he’s met plenty of them, and as he spoke ahead of tonight’s Europa League match, he stated he’s getting sick of them.
“Some coaches try to overcomplicate things, they’ve got the gift of the gab and the silver tongue, but I haven’t. I just tell you how it is, I tell my team how it is and what’s expected at this club and we will go into these tests and give it a go.
“I’m not going to stand here and try and change the game of football. It’s being going on long before I was created. I have listened to certain people throughout my career and they just talked b****cks. They did.
“They are about, they are in the game, the game is littered with a lot of them. I don’t. I don’t complicate it, I just say the same things that Walter said or Graeme Souness did. If you compared the three team talks, there wouldn’t be many differences.”
Learning from the best
It’s clear that Gerrard has been learning from the best if he’s been modifying his team-talks to that of a Souness or Smith. There’s certainly no lack of confidence in the Rangers boss, and for good reason.
Since arriving at Ibrox, he’s been lauded for his team-talks and ability to motivate his players. Coming from being one of English football’s greatest ever players, he’s clearly an expert in providing inspiration.

It’s important that Gerrard doesn’t fall into that trap of promising more than he can. You also have to imagine, if the Rangers manager has watched Scottish football closely,, that he could’ve been referring to a couple of previous Gers bosses.
Pedro Caixinha was often one for grandeur and promising the world. In reality, it became very evident that the man was incompetent and therefore lost his job.
It’s good to see that Gerrard understands that isn’t the way forward.
