During Steven Gerrard’s post-match interview with RangersTV on Wednesday night, he had praise for all Rangers’ goal scorers.
It was a chaotic, but excellent spectacle against Aberdeen, that had all the drama you could wish for.
The Gers needed to take three points, and they were sealed via an Alfredo Morelos brace, a James Tavernier penalty and an injury time Jermain Defoe finish.

“I’m delighted with all the goals tonight”, the manager told RangersTV.
“Tav shows his nerve on the penalty, Alfredo’s second goal was an incredible finish and he took his first goal well as well as having another chance in the second half.”

Special praise, though, was reserved for his January signing.

Gerrard made the call to send Defoe on with 20 minutes remaining, as after Alfredo Morelos’ 55th minute dismissal, the Gers had struggled to create opportunities.
Only one genuine chance fell the veteran’s way, but he finished with precision.
“Then Jermain came on and showed why he has been at the top of the game all the way through”, Gerrard said.

With composure like that, it’s obvious how Defoe has had such a successful career.

Despite some question marks over his age, it’s clear he’s still got it, too.
Three in his first five appearances constitutes an excellent start to life at Rangers.
