Steven Gerrard’s playing style perhaps hasn’t been worked out by some, but he claims it’s simply “the Rangers way”.
The Rangers manager was speaking after Rangers hammered St Johnstone 5-1 at Ibrox on Sunday. The victory was all the more impressive given the fact that Gers had just drawn with Villarreal the previous Thursday.
Five different goalscorers were on the scoresheet against Tommy Wright’s side also. James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, Kyle Lafferty, and Daniel Candeias all netted in a convincing display.

The nature of the win pleased Rangers supporters, and Gerrard has claimed post-match that he only looks to play one way.
“When we move the ball quick in tight areas and move it from one side of the pitch to the other, when we do it right we look a very dangerous side going forward. We are trying to do it the right way, the Rangers way which is playing attacking football.
“We have to show people what we are about, play our own way and make it uncomfortable for teams. And that looked uncomfortable for St Johnstone. Today in patches was some of the best football I have seen from us.
“It was all about today and I thought at times we played some stunning football.”
“Stunning football”
Nobody who was at the game could argue that was the case. Rangers totally overwhelmed St Johnstone all over the pitch, but especially in the final third.
Where as Rangers’ rivals are struggling for potency going forward, Rangers have it in abundance. Morelos and Lafferty both netted once more as they continue to grow in confidence on a weekly-basis.

Supporters, however, will be even more delighted by the margins of victory they’re starting to see at Ibrox. Today’s mauling of Saints followed a similar 4-0 thrashing of Dundee last week. Rangers are dominating and dismantling teams at Ibrox once more, and they’re in terrific form. This has come at a crucial time as Celtic continue to falter and Hearts drop their first points of the season.
If we are being honest, however, Rangers have sat back against Celtic and Villarreal in recent times. It appears as though the manager is now finding out that this side he’s built are at their best on the attack. That’s when they’ve been at their best this season and are getting their best results.
It was another big step forward against St Johnstone, but things can only get better in the coming weeks.
