Steven Gerrard “not interested” in top-spot after Rangers’ Hamilton win

Steven Gerrard’s Hamilton reaction sparked an interesting moment during his interview with Rangers TV.

The Rangers manager was doing his usual post-match interview in-house after Rangers overcame Hamilton 1-0. It was a result that shot Rangers above both Kilmarnock and Celtic to go top of the table for the second time in two weeks.

The last time Rangers went top was after a 2-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle. That was followed by dreadful results against Aberdeen, Dundee, and Rapid Vienna.

Therefore, Gerrard today shot down a question from his post-match interview about regaining top spot. Speaking after the narrow win against Accies, the Gers manager had this to say on leapfrogging Celtic once more.

“Not interested. I’m not interested in being top of the league.

“We were top of the league against Hearts (after beating them 2-1), and then for eight days we’ve suffered as a team. So I’m not interested in being top of the league.

“I’m happy we’ve won. I’m happy with the clean sheet. But we need to improve.”

Feet firmly being kept on the ground

Gerrard appears to have learned from his side’s own mistake last time out at Tynecastle. Rangers’ celebrations at the end of the Hearts match eventually came back to bite them fairly quickly against Aberdeen and Dundee.

The Rangers manager recognises that the season is going to have plenty of twists and turns. This is just yet another one of them, and Gerrard is only concentrating on squad improvement as opposed to sitting top in December.

Against Hamilton, Rangers again dominated the match without having much of a killer-instinct in the final third. Despite having an incredible 21 corners throughout, the quality of delivery into the box wasn’t the best.

Kyle Lafferty was given his big chance to shine, but squandered several big opportunities that came his way. It was a match that on another day could’ve been a rout, but in the end only ended with the one-goal margin.

It’s positive news for Rangers supporters to see their manager keeping things level-headed. He’s clearly annoyed, and fans will now demand that Rangers don’t give up top-spot so meekly.
