Steven Gerrard has made no secret about his love for Alfredo Morelos during his time at Rangers.
The manager consistently defended him in the opening weeks of the season, and has been quick to praise him for his goalscoring exploits in recent weeks.
This afternoon’s press conference ahead of the clash against Aberdeen, was no different. Tomorrow evening, Morelos is hoping to break a Gers record by scoring in his eighth consecutive league match. With that in mind, his manager’s comments are sure to give him some added confidence.
‘I think in current form, Alfredo deserves that recognition (being labelled as the best striker in Scotland). I think the league has some really strong forwards, but Alfredo’s certainly up there.’
When asked what he has done in his capacity as manager to improve the Colombian, Gerrard distanced himself.
‘He’s the one who’s done all the hard work…He’s got himself fitter, stronger. I think he looks better, he looks sharper. So he deserves all the credit. As a coaching staff, we’ve just tried to guide him.’
‘In pre-season he pushed himself to the limit every single session…The biggest thing for me is that he’s smiling. He’s enjoying his training and he enjoys the dressing room’, he went on to add.
Gerrard stated that the three points are the most important thing in the game against Aberdeen.
Of course, he is right about that. However, the home faithful would love to see El Buffalo break that scoring record under the lights, on the way to that all important win.
