Two big personalities will go up against each other tomorrow night, as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers take on Neil Lennon’s Hibernian, at Easter Road.
It’s the first time the two sides have met this season, with their previous encounter finishing 5-5 in May.
Far from downplaying the occasion, Steven Gerrard expressed his excitement ahead of the fixture. Firstly because he believes it will be an open match.
“It’s got all the makings of an exciting game. They’re on the back of a big victory against Celtic, so i’m sure that confidence is high”, he said during today’s press conference.
Secondly, because he relishes the opportunity to go up against Neil Lennon.
“I know him well. Played against him, competed against him. Bumped into him a few times..”
“Competitive player, competitive manager. So yeah, really looking forward to going toe-to-toe on the side”, he explained.
Verdict:
Gerrard looked genuinely excited about the opportunity to pit himself against one of Scottish football’s most controversial figures.
Lennon won five major trophies during his time at Celtic. Therefore, while Gerrard was a superior operator on the pitch, his opposite man is considerably more experienced in the dugout.
As the Gers manager detailed, this one has all the makings of a good game. On the back of their victory over Celtic, Hibs are bound to come out firing, which will suit a Rangers team who struggle to break down defensive opponents.
These two managers are ultra competitive, and Gerrard will be looking to put down a marker during their first ever meeting.
