Steve Bruce has been confirmed as Newcastle United’s new Head Coach.
The 58-year-old has signed an initial three-year contract at St James’ park, and will now join up with the Magpies squad on their pre-season tour of China.

“I’m delighted and incredibly proud to be appointed as head coach of Newcastle United,” Bruce told the club’s website. “This is my boyhood club and it was my dad’s club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family.”
“There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it’s one that my staff and I are ready for. We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll be giving it everything from the off to ensure supporters have a successful team that they can be proud of.”
This news finally brings to a close tiresome speculation over Steven Gerrard’s future. Earlier this month, The Express reported that Mike Ashley had approached the Gers boss to offer him the role.

Conflicting reports then emerged with one claiming Gerrard had rejected the offer [
The Sun], and another claiming he had yet to be formally approached [The Times].
With the post now filled, though, there’s confirmation of what we already knew. Gerrard will not be headed for the Toon.
He has a big job to do at Rangers which as of now is only half done. He’s brought plenty of new faces in already this summer and after a strong start to pre-season, he’ll be hoping to hit the ground running in the league, come August.
