It is looking increasingly “unlikely” Alfredo Morelos will play for Rangers again as Lille rekindle their interest in the striker, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun believe that Steven Gerrard’s side are preparing to talk business with the Ligue 1 side this week with the Scouser ready to cut ties with the Colombian.
After Gerrard “lost his patience” with the talismanic forward, the report believes Rangers are now set to re-open talks with Les Dogues.
The move reportedly comes after Morelos was left out of the club’s 2-0 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend, with Gers boss Gerrard failing to miss when asked about the striker’s omission.
Gerrard has been very public about Morelos having his “head turned” by the megabucks interest from France and didn’t hold back when discussing the situation after the match.
The Rangers manager said Morelos made the decision to take him out of the team “easy”.
“I only want players who are hungry for the shirt,” said Gerrard [BBC Sport].
“If I see people who are not focused or who have taken their eye off the ball and not really, really hungry to get this football club results, I have to make easy decisions and Alfredo made it easy for me this week.
“We need players who work hard every single day and who are ready and focused for the challenges coming up.
“I want it to be difficult in every position. I want two good players in every position fighting for their places.”
Rangers have reportedly rejected four bids from the French side for Morelos already, with the latest reportedly touching just over £16m [Daily Mail].
Lille president Gerard Lopez refused to rule out a return for the player [talkSPORT] with Rangers said to be holding out for closer to £20m.
Lille have also just been handed a major transfer boost with the news that defender Gabriel Magalhães is set to move to Arsenal for a reported £27m (€30m) [Guardian].
