Midfielder Daniel Johnson is in contention for a return to the Preston North End squad amid reports claiming the Jamaican has agreed a deal with Rangers.
Daily Mirror journalist Jonny Hulme had originally claimed that a deal was “done” between Rangers and North End regarding the midfielder.
This was echoed by the Deepdale Digest who claimed the move could see Preston recoup anywhere between “£2.5m to £3m” for the midfielder.
However a report in the Lancashire Post appeared to refute these claims by suggesting Preston had knocked back an early bid from Rangers with the ball now in the Ibrox club’s court.
Speaking to the media ahead of Preston’s EFL Cup trip to Championship rivals Derby County, Lilywhites boss Alex Neil confirmed DJ could return to the club’s squad.
If a deal had been agreed with Rangers, it is incredibly unlikely that the player would be turning out for Preston tomorrow evening.
Neil’s comments also come after the ex-Hamilton boss dropped Johnson for the 1-0 Championship season opener defeat to Swansea City.
When asked by BBC Lancashire if he could update them as to why Johnson wasn’t on the team sheet, Preston boss Alex Neil simply said “no”.
When pressed on the subject by the Lancashire Post, Neil added:
“I’m not going to discuss any individual player’s situation, that isn’t fair.

“People will jump to their own conclusions and don’t really understand the situation.
“I’m not going to comment on it.”
