According to French outlet Le10sport, St Etienne are interested in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
It’s suggested that the Ligue 1 side, who have scored just eleven goals in their first eleven games this season, are in the market for a centre-forward ahead of the January transfer window.
Morelos, who already has 18 goals in all competitions, including ten in eleven European matches [Soccerbase], has understandably caught the eye.
The report claims that St Etienne, who are managed by former Leicester and Southampton boss Claude Puel, have already scouted El Bufalo on multiple occasions.
However, it’s suggested that the potentially high fee for the striker could prove ‘complicated’ for them unless they offload several players first.
St Etienne are a big club with ten league championships to their name, although their last triumph came way back in 1981.
Despite recruiting Puel as manager, they are currently 12th in Ligue 1 and bottom of Europa League Group I, despite the presence of little known Ukranian side FC Oleksandriya in their pool.
Even if they were to come in with a colossal offer to try to prize Morelos away from Ibrox, why would he want to go?
Right now, he’s playing in front of adoring fans in a bigger stadium and competing for silverware.
Given the outstanding level of his recent performances, you get the feeling this wouldn’t be a big enough step up to tempt him away.
