Clement only landed the Rangers job earlier this month but is already going up against a former teammate.
Sparta Prague boss Brian Priske played alongside Clement at Club Brugge between 2006 and 2008.
The pair played 62 times together and will have struck up a decent relationship.
After all, Clement played as a centre back whilst Priske featured at right back, so some understanding will have been found in their time together.
Both have ended up going into management and have actually faced each other once before.
That game took place in October 2021 as Priske’s Royal Antwerp side drew 1-1 with Clement’s Club Brugge.
Priske backs Clement for Rangers success
Priske has now spoken to the Czech media about Clement as he prepares to battle his former teammate.
The Dane has told Blesk that he and Clement have remained in contact in the 15 years since they went their separate ways as players.
Priske has praised Clement as a ‘good person’ and a ‘gentleman’ whilst also noting that he is a good coach.
The Sparta boss predicts that Clement will now show his quality as a coach in Scotland, backing him to shine as Rangers manager – but hopefully not against his side.
“I think it’s fifteen years since I left Bruges. We were always in contact, we met a year ago in Belgium when I was working in Antwerp,” said Priske. “We talked not only during matches. Philippe is a good person, a gentleman and a good coach. I wish him the best of luck, but not in the coming weeks. He also did a good job in Monaco, where he was sacked. But I know of his qualities, and I believe you will find that in Scotland,” he added.
