Sir Alex Ferguson used to be an expert at getting his teams to peak at the right time, Rangers boss Philippe Clement will be hoping that the return of players like Tom Lawrence will allow him to do the same.

The squad flew out for a mid-season training camp in La Manga, a far cry from the wind, rain and snow that has swept Glasgow in recent weeks with the Gers boss looking to make the most of the time to instil his message.

There has been good news for the Rangers manager with Tom Lawrence being one of the players who boarded the plane to Spain and, if he can stay fit for the second half of the season, could be a real difference maker.

Rangers given surprise Tom Lawrence bonus in Spanish footage

Ever since he over stretched for a dead ball at Ibrox in the fourth minute of injury time of a 4-0 win over Ross County a year past September, the Wales international has barely kicked a ball.

Clement started him in three league games in a row at the end of November and the beginning of December to make it six appearances in a row, however, after looking like he was back to full fitness, he sat a forlorn figure on the Tynecastle turf.

Soon to turn 30, Lawrence will have a struggle to return to his best shape but he was already looking close to the sort of form when he first arrived in 2022.

Playing as either a number eight, number ten or off either wing, Tom Lawrence could bring the sort of numbers that Rangers need in a title race.

As Clement says, a season is a marathon and every player can play their part at some point, all it takes is one goal in a key game and it can be the difference between winning and losing.

Lawrence could be that player who makes a difference.
