A source close to Alfredo Morelos has reportedly made it clear that the Rangers striker ‘likes Spanish football’ and may be open to a summer switch to La Liga giants Sevilla.
For Los Nervionenses, a typically sweltering Seville summer cannot come around soon enough.
A team used to playing European football and fighting for continental silverware have tallied almost as many managers as league wins so far in 2022/23, Jorge Sampaoli going the way of Julen Lopetegui shortly after a 6-1 obliteration at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Rarely has the almost-mythical Monchi – one of the game’s most feted sporting directors – found himself under such intense pressure. With so many of Sevilla’s recent arrivals flopping in Andalusia, Monchi will be desperate to bounce back and remind everyone why he was viewed, no so long ago, as arguably the finest talent-spotter in Spanish and potentially even European football.
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is reportedly a target for Sevilla
Sevilla have scored only 29 goals in 26 La Liga games this term. With neither Youssef En-Nesyri nor Rafa Mir nailing down a regular starting spot, a new centre-forward is high on Monchi’s hitlist. And rumours linking Morelos with a move to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan are not going away.
Vamos mi Sevilla were recently forced to row back on claims that the firebrand Colombian had agreed to join Sevilla when his Rangers contract expires. Gers boss Mick Beale himself insisted there was ‘no truth’ to such claims.
But, according to Estadio Deportivo, Morelos’ camp are not exactly pouring water on the speculation pyre; petrol their weapon of choice.
Sevilla, a source close to Morelos explains, ‘would be a very good option’. The former HJK Helsinki striker ‘likes Spanish football’ too, and should settle in nicely given his Colombian roots.
Morelos is one of a handful of high-profile players set to become a free-agent in July.
“We have such a strong relationship,” Beale told the Daily Record earlier this month. “We’re committed to each other until the end of the season. We’ll sit down and have a chat then.
“If Alfredo’s here and offered a new contract, great. If he moves on, then he’s going as our record goalscorer in Europe. He’ll get a hug and on he goes. But at this moment in time, we’re just focusing on the games ahead.”
Morelos has scored 122 goals in fewer than 300 games since joining Rangers in 2017. Only ten of those have come this season, however.
