The 23-year-old was at his combative and ruthless best, tussling with Christophe Berra throughout and showing composure in front of goal.
As a frustrating first half looked set to finish goalless, it was he who did something different, pulling out to the right flank, before his driven ball in picked out Filip Helander to open the scoring.
Then, in the second half, his poacher’s instinct came to the fore.
Morelos tucked away two emphatic finishes, first from James Tavernier’s fizzed cross and then after being set up by the electric Ryan Kent.
El Bufalo briefly thought he’d bagged a hat-trick shortly afterwards, only to be denied by the offside flag.
It was an impressive all-action performance and after the game, he tweeted to mark the win.
