James Tavernier rewarded for recent Rangers form

It’s not the first time that this has happened either.

Clean sheets are a staple for defenders.

Others add the assist or two.

Tavernier, does it all.

Most of his defending is done higher up the park which is one of the key reasons why Jack Butland is quieter than most keepers.

John Souttar and Connor Goldson have both talked about Clement’s plan even when his team has possession.

Covering spaces and stopping counter attacks has been a huge part of this and Tavernier playing as a more inverted full-back has been instrumental.

With three assists against Ross County and two goals against St Johnstone, James Tavernier has had the sort of week that reminds fans what he is really capable of.

As a reward, the Gers number two has been named in EA Sports FC’s Team of the Week with the worldwide gaming phenomenon posting the announcement on X.

He’s joined on the list by such footballing luminaries as Gianluigi Donnarumma and Martin Odegaard.

Tavernier has earned player of the year recognition and team of the year recognition in the past but he would swap them all for more silverware this season.

If he can repeat his performances of this week, you wouldn’t bet against it.

True legend status could be his.
