Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst can’t wait to get stuck in at Ibrox but there remains some questions regarding the Dutchman’s backroom staff as the likes of Roy Makaay are snapped in Glasgow.

Ex-Gers, Arsenal and Barcelona star Gio was snapped in a Glasgow West End restaurant with three of his backroom staff but there remain questions over the fourth.

Last night we had the pleasure of hosting the Dutch legend Giovanni Van Bronckhorst 🇳🇱 🇮🇹

Posted by Caprese – Don Costanzo on Sunday, November 21, 2021

Gio, 46, was out for dinner at Caprese – Don Castanzo’s in the city and was joined by a host of Rangers directors, members of his family and, most pertinently, three now Ibrox backroom staffers.

As a photo shared on Follow, Follow shows, Giovanni was joined at the dinner by the likes of Rangers directors Ross Wilson and James Bisgrove as well as Roy Makaay, Arno Philips, and Yori Bosschaart.

Former Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay was part of the coaching set up with van Bronckhorst at Feyenoord and he’s been praised by ex-Gers coach Jan Wouters.

The ex-Gers assistant to Alex McLeish said Makaay was striker coach at Feyenoord and that this could be a boost to Kemar Roofe, Alfredo Morelos, and Fashion Sakala.

“With Feyenoord, Roy did the strikers. You know how good he was as a player so he can tell attacking players how to react on the pitch,” said Wouters [Daily Record].

“He did some amazing exercises on the training pitch with the strikers at Feyenoord.

“It will be great for Rangers’ strikers to have someone like Roy at the club. He was one of Europe’s best as a player so he will definitely make them better.

“Especially with the small details. He’s excellent at coaching how to move in and around the box.”

Arno Phillips is a renowned fitness coach and is also someone who worked with van Bronckhorst at Feyenoord.

The strength and conditioning coach also worked with Gio as a player during the 2010 World Cup with the Netherlands and has experience with PSV, Schalke 04 and the Turkish and Russian national sides.

Expert video analyst Yori Bosschaart worked as a youth coach at Feyenoord in the mid-2000s and became the club’s video performance analyst in 2013.

Following van Bronckhorst to China, Bosschaart has also worked with the United Arab Emirates and will be a pivotal member of the Ibrox backroom staff.

However there remains some questions regarding who GvB’s main assistant will be with conflicting reports surrounding now Guangzhou manager Jean-Paul van Gastel.

van Gastel has been van Bronckhorst’s right-hand man ever since he took his first steps in management but the latest suggests that the coach won’t be coming to Glasgow [Daily Record].

Talk of Rangers recruiting a Scottish coach to fill the void has also been disputed by leading Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

That means there is still one role to fill and we’re sure this will become clearer in the coming days.

But at the moment the Gers look poised to press on with GVB, Makaay, Phillips, and Bosschaart who’re already in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, outgoing Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was rescued in his first match as Aston Villa boss by a £53m England pair.
