Former Rangers centre-back Calvin Bassey met up with Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge earlier this week.

The Nigeria defender is currently plying his trade at Premier League club Fulham.

Bassey left Rangers for Ajax in 2022 for a club-record fee of £20m, but after only a year, moved to the London club.

Michael Bridge reveals that Calvin Bassey had a lot to talk about Rangers

Bridge has revealed that he caught up with Bassey and the duo were mainly talking about Rangers and the Nigerian’s time at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old had a stellar time with the Light Blues, being an integral part of the team from 2021 to 2023.

He did not get the first-team push he would have liked at Leicester, so the Gers took the gamble on him, securing his services on a free transfer.

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!

That move paid off not just on the pitch, but off it too, given how expensive his sale was.

It also came at a time when the club absolutely needed the money, and he has gone on to become a regular at a Premier League club.

Having met Bassey, Bridges wrote on X: “Good catch up with Calvin Bassey. Mostly talking Rangers.”

Is an Ibrox return on the cards for Bassey?

It is clear as day that the Gers need at least four new defenders in the summer transfer window.

Of those four, two of them need to be centre-backs as there is a clear lack of quality and depth in that area of the pitch.

For many fans, Bassey would still tick the box as he was an exceptional defender, an impeccable passer, and, overall, strengthened the side whenever he was playing.

At 26, he is still arguably not in his prime and will only get better in the next few years.

How much can Rangers expect from Djeidi Gassama’s sale? 🤔

He is still contracted to the Craven Cottage outfit for another year and they hold the option to extend it until 2028.

As he has been playing regularly, making 30 Premier League appearances last season, they are not likely to part ways with him unless they sign an upgrade and he asks to leave for regular game time.

Thus far, Rangers have shown no indication towards being interested in re-signing Bassey anyway.
