You know Rangers transfer news is getting serious when Sky Sports gets involve and the broadcaster is now confirming that QPR defender Leon Balogun is set for a sensational Ibrox return.

Sky Sports released a report this morning claiming that the Gers are closing in on a deal to bring the 35-year-old centre-back back up the road to Glasgow following a devastating injury to Leon King.

The teenage centre-back is set for an extended spell on the sidelines following an ankle injury and the Gers are looking to draft Leon Balogun back in to replace him.

The report claims that a Rangers move for Leon Balogun should go through at Ibrox if the centre-back can complete a medical check with an announcement imminent thereafter.

Leon Balogun says goodbye to Queens Park Rangers

Former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst released a devastated Leon Balogun from his contract at the end of the 21/22 season and the defender spent the last campaign at QPR.

Given the affinity that the centre-back has with the Glasgow club, it’s no surprise he’s jumping at the chance to come back with Leon Balogun now set to be signing number seven of the window.

This comes after the centre-back released an emotional social media message saying goodbye to QPR following a season with the Rs at Loftus Road.

“Thank you to everyone at @officialqpr – the staff, the players and you the supporters,” said Balogun on his official Instagram account.

“Despite everything that has happened throughout this very difficult season, I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club.

“I’m wishing you nothing but the best for the future you Rsss.”

Should Leon Balogun complete the medical and rejoin Rangers, he’ll join club stalwart Connor Goldson, ex-Preston star Ben Davies, Scotland international John Souttar and ex-Chelsea youth Dujon Sterling as centre-back options.

Rangers aren’t set to stop there either with the Sky Sports report suggesting the club are still very much interested in Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo.
