The silence of the lambs. The mauling of the mutton. The destruction of Dolly.
Rangers’ ravenous ruination of Aberdeen was akin to a tame, springtime lamb being thrown to some starving wolves.
Not only was the 5-0 hammering incredibly satisfying for supporters; it proves Rangers are genuine and real title contenders.
The Ibrox club stretched seven points ahead of Aberdeen with yesterday’s result, but more importantly within a point of Celtic.
The pressure was on Rangers after Celtic’s stumbling 1-1 draw at Easter Road against Hibs and should the side not have reacted the way they did then any notion of a title challenge may well have been written off.
Well, as much as a title race can be seven games into a domestic league season.
Against Aberdeen, a side which we only beat twice last season in seven meetings, there may have been some nerves amongst the support that we’d be unable to lift our game to get the result.
But lift our game we did.
From the first whistle to the last Rangers were completely unplayable, with the movement of the forward line and the creativity of the midfield and full-backs arguably up there with our best performances this season.
Aberdeen were due a hammering from Rangers and you got the feeling that Rangers and Steven Gerrard were seeking revenge from last season’s results against the Dons.

We handled the pressure, got the result and left our northeastern rivals with the promise of a very long four travel hour journey back up north.
But perhaps more importantly, we proved we can handle the pressure of winning points in the title race.
Doing so by demoralising and destroying those hapless sheep was simply a bonus.
