Seven of the best videos and images as Rangers players take to social media to celebrate Fenerbahce win

Another Thursday night under the lights, and another night in which Rangers emerge victorious, even if the result might not have been too pretty.

It’s not often a team celebrates breaking a 153-year old and unwanted record, however, few out of the 50,000 fans who were in Ibrox and beyond will care about losing four home games for the first time in the club’s long and illustrious history

Recent times haven’t quite been as successful which makes reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League all the more impressive, especially with a relative rookie Rangers manager in Barry Ferguson.

As someone who bleeds red, white and blue, few would have been as ecstatic as the Gers boss who outsmarted Jose Mourinho and left the Portuguese managerial legend taking aim at UEFA.

For a Rangers squad that has been battered from pillar to post, it was a night that they will remember for some time, and this is the best of their reactions on social media.

Rangers players take to social media to celebrate Fenerbahce win

The obvious place to start is with 10/10 rated Jack Butland

Not only was his handling and command of his area faultless, but his two penalty saves were as good as you will see at any level.

After a period of poor form, the 32-year old clearly enjoyed this one.

Leon Balogun full of praise for the brick wall Jack Butland

Sometimes, foreign players arrive at Rangers and just “get it”, players like Nacho Novo, Jorg Albertz and Arthur Numan, spring to mind, and Leon Balogun certainly fits this bracket.

The veteran defender was immense in Istanbul and seems to appreciate that there might not be many more nights like the one experienced against Fenerbahce with his 37th birthday in the summer.

The big defender couldn’t help but praise the man behind him after his match winning display.

Nicolas Raskin shares Ibrox dressing room snap

Nicolas Raskin has emerged as a proper Rangers player this season and the diminutive Belgian has been key to the Europa League run.

Again, he covered every blade of grass in a monumental display as he went toe-to-toe with experienced international operators.

Raskin shared a snap from behind the scenes with Ianis Hagi, Mohamed Diomande, Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane.

Union Bears go ballistic

Managers always talk about the 12th man, and there is a reason why.

The Union Bears, joined by the rest of Ibrox, were in fine voice throughout the game, but picked things up a notch during the penalty shoot-out.

They clearly affected the Fenerbahce players as a wall of noise welcomed them from 12-yards away.

After a hard season, they had every right to celebrate.

Captain fantastic James Tavernier saviours another Ibrox night

James Tavernier is never far from criticism and he needed to be at his best to drag his team through to the quarter-finals.

At centre-half and right-back, there wasn’t anyone who did as much outfield to keep Fenerbahce at bay with two perfectly executed tackles in extra-time.

“One of those nights at Ibrox. Tonight was special,” from a man who experienced the 2021/22 European run.

Tom Lawrence plays his part

With players dropping like flies, Ferguson turned to Tom Lawrence to bring a bit of experience into the middle of midfield.

Despite being in a deeper role to normal, the recalled Wales international put in the sort of shift that his manager would have been proud of.

Not only did he look to make something happen in the final third, but a timely interception at the back saw Rangers make it into the penalty shoot-out.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo back at Ibrox and looking fit

Having been on fan zone duty in New Edmiston House, Paul Nsio, Zander Hutton and the returning Neraysho Kasanwirjo all had to wait in the tunnel as penalties were being taken.

After being given the go ahead by security, there was only one place they were heading to share their joy at witnessing yet another incredible European night at Ibrox.

Ibrox baby. It’s just different.
