Serie A giants have been linked with a loan move for former Rangers kid and Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour, according to reports in the Italian press.

According to Calcio Mercato, the 19-year-old midfielder is being eyed by Rino Gattuso’s side with a view to a January move which could see him join permanently at the end of the season.

These links come after Gilmour broke through to the Chelsea first team last season but has found chances more limited at Stamford Bridge following a summer of transfer investment.

Gilmour – who is regarded as one of the best players to ever come out of the Rangers Academy – was handed his first-team debut by Frank Lampard against Sheffield United last season.

Since then the young Scot has gone on to make 12 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club, his most recent being his Champions League debut in the 4-0 humbling of Sevilla this week.

Gilmour’s early promise at the Blues was hampered by a knee injury but now he looks to be building himself back up to fitness and into fortune at the club.

The reports of Napoli’s interest also come after a source at The Athletic had claimed the young midfielder could be sent on loan come January.

However, it’s since been claimed that the amount was actually closer to £2m, with the Gers receiving £250k when he made his senior debut and set to land a further £250k after he makes 10 starts [The Sunday Post].

If the midfielder is up for grabs on loan this January – what are the chances of Rangers at least asking the Premier League side the question?
