Rangers were rejected by Davie Selke back in the summer transfer window as he opted to stay at Hertha Berlin.

It was BILD in Germany who claimed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst was turned down by the 28-year-old as he attempted to bring a new striker to Ibrox.

Now, it seems as if Rangers may have dodged a bullet.

Selke struggling after rejecting Rangers

Well, Selke has endured a difficult campaign since rejecting the opportunity to join Rangers.

The German has only scored two goals in 22 Bundesliga games this season, which works out at one strike every 11 games – not the greatest record, to say the least.

Selke’s decision to reject Rangers has seemed to backfire even without taking goals into consideration, as he was only handed three Bundesliga starts at Hertha Berlin in the first half of the campaign.

The Schorndorf-born striker eventually left Hertha Berlin to join FC Köln in January, where things haven’t got much better in terms of goals or playing time.

Selke has only scored once in nine Bundesliga appearances for his new side, after also scoring just one goal in 13 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha Berlin before his January move.

Hopefully, Rangers no longer have any interest in the goal-shy forward.

Even if he was made available for a cut-price fee, it isn’t something we think Michael Beale and Ross Wilson should explore, given the fact that he should soon start to enter a decline as he approaches his thirties.

We can understand why Van Bronckhorst showed an interest in the man with 15 caps for Germany’s Under-21 side.

Selke was once targeted by Real Madrid after emerging as one of Germany’s brightest talents – according to ESPN – and Rangers clearly backed themselves to help him showcase his talent.

Nevertheless, the Gers were rejected, which must have come as a disappointment at the time.

Now – however – it is starting to look like a blessing in disguise as Selke struggles.
