Former Celtic rival Scott McDonald says he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Mike Ashley tried to assume full control at Ibrox.

This come after it was revealed Ashley plans to sell Newcastle United before the January transfer window.

This is at the same time as the takeover debacle surrounding Dave King. Dave King announced recently that he will make a £19m offer to buy out the rest of the club’s shareholders. This will be done by January 25th.

This came after the Rangers Chairman faced contempt of court proceedings following the missing of a March deadline to make the offer.

With the takeover, it now looks like things will progress as planned.

It also seems as if Scott McDonald is at the wind up. Being an ex-Celtic striker, he’s bound to enjoy sticking the boot in.

It’s great to see he’s pursued a career in business journalism as he struggles to secure a new club. His career will be remembered most fondly for scoring two against Celtic at Fir Park in 2005. Those strikes handed Rangers the title on Helicopter Sunday.

He’s fishing for bites and of course he got some. There would be a full-on fan revolt if Mike Ashley tried to usurp Dave King in the Ibrox boardroom.

The club are still embroiled in a disastrous merchandising arrangement with Ashley’s Sports Direct which could see Rangers pay up to £400,000 in legal fees.

Newcastle United fans will be buzzing to get shot of him, but it’s hugely unlikely he’ll redirect his gaze to Ibrox.
