Scott Arfield makes Falkirk claim as contract runs down at Rangers

Scott Arfield has claimed that he would one day love a return to Falkirk as his contract at Rangers ticks down ahead of the summer.

The former Canada international captain, 34, began his career with the Bairns and he is always grateful for the now League One outfit handing him his big break.

The attacking midfielder would then move to Huddersfield Town south of the border for three years before a five year stint in the Premier League with Burnley.

Now in his fifth season at Ibrox, there are major doubts surrounding Scott Arfield at Rangers but the midfielder has admitted one day he’d love a return to Falkirk.

“I loved it and they gave me the chance to live my dream,” said Scott Arfield.

“I hope one day, in a playing or managerial capacity, to go back to the club. They gave me a chance as a youngster and I won’t forget that.

“They had no money, so they had to promote youngsters.

“I wish some other teams would go down a similar path. There are a lot of good players in the Scottish game, but they need a chance.”

Rangers are clear that they face a window of change after two seasons of domestic disappointment and a series of out-of-contract players are top of the list of potential exits.

Amongst them is ex-Falkirk star Scott Arfield, who at 34-years-old is an interesting juncture of his career full-stop, never mind just at Rangers.

An influential player at Ibrox over the years, and one of the senior players in the squad, we’re seeing less and less of the midfielder who offers something different from anyone else in the team.

Famed for those smart, late runs into the box, Scott Arfield has provided some essential goals for Rangers ever since walking through the door at Ibrox but it certainly appears the player’s influence is waning.

Whether it’s Falkirk or someone else, it does appear that the Rangers career of Scott Arfield could be ticking to its conclusion with Michael Beale looking to bring more youthful invigoration into the Ibrox squad.

But there are others who believe the experience and influence of Scott Arfield extends beyond just the pitch and Rangers might do well retaining the midfielder for another season.
