Rangers fan Scotland striker Oliver McBurnie might’ve done his utmost to silence critics by scoring a penalty in the nation’s 5-4 shoot-out victory following a 1-1 draw with Serbia.
Hell, the £20m Sheffield United striker might’ve even etched his name into Scottish footballing folklore in the process.

But that hasn’t stopped the usual suspects bemoaning the unseemly forward after he was picked for Steve Clarke’s side to start the 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat to Slovakia.
McBurnie, 24, might’ve once again drawn a blank for the national team – making it 13 caps without a goal – but there remains real negativity surrounding the player on this stage.
Much of it – in fact almost all of it on Twitter – comes from the east end of Glasgow.
Scotland supporting Celtic fans, in particular, are quick to take to Twitter to bemoan the forward who is clearly highly thought of down south and in the Scotland camp.
McBurnie was once again very unlucky not to break his duck as a much-changed Scottish side fell to defeat just days after qualifying for Euro 2020.
Only three players from that side made the starting line-up for this match but it was McBurnie who once again bore the brunt of the criticism from Scotland fans largely wearing green-tinted specs.

Infact, you know what, just click THIS LINK which is the term “McBurnie” typed into the Twitter search bar and try your best to find a “Scotland” supporter who doesn’t adorn the green and grey.
What’s incredible is that only one support in Scottish club football seems to have such a unified, aggressive view about the striker.

But yet they all keep telling themselves it’s everything to do with football and not even remotely connected to his club allegiances.
So much for sticking together and keeping that good feeling going, eh?
