Rangers fans have certainly enjoyed the Ibrox-forced meltdown across Scotland as rivals Celtic implode with former boss Neil Lennon now out of the Parkhead reckoning.

Lennon resigned on the 55th day of the year and won’t be in Glasgow’s eastend in March when the Gers either come as Champions or with the title in their sights.

One name which drew quite the reaction from Rangers fans was Scotland boss Steve Clarke who is obviously about to take the national team to the Euros.

The ex-Kilmarnock manager sparked a small rivalry with the Ayrshire club during his tenure at Rugby Park where he earned them a spot in the Europa League qualifiers.

Speaking to the press amid links to Celtic, interestingly Clarke refused to rule out a move to Parkhead or interest in the role at Celtic Park.

“Long-term? I haven’t thought too much about it. I’m comfortable in the position I’m in. If they (SFA) want to come and offer me a new contract then fine; if they don’t then fine,” said Clarke [Sky Sports].

“If something else comes up? Then I’ll deal with it as and when it comes up. But at this moment in time, I’m just looking forward to those World Cup qualifiers in March.

“Hopefully a really good start, and obviously the tournament in the summer will take care of itself.

“That’s what you do the job for – to be as successful as you can. You want people to notice that you’re doing a good job.

“And if the players on the pitch are producing for me then that makes me look like a better manager. So that’s great.”

Clarke certainly didn’t write himself out of the reckoning for the top job at Celtic Park and out of the names mentioned, he’s certainly one of the more realistic options.

The Hampden gaffer also manages Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack and goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin on national team duty.

Rangers fans themselves had plenty to say about the links to Clarke as they reacted to the Scotland boss being named as one of the reported frontrunners.
