Rangers’ Ryan Jack will be ruing disgusting luck ahead of tonight’s massive clash against Israel for Scotland.
Jack was originally part of Alex McLeish’s squad for the massive double-header against Albania and Israel. Yet, he picked up an incredibly untimely knee injury just days after being called up.
Scotland are in the middle of that Nations League double-header. After hammering Albania 4-0 away from home, the Scots have a chance to nab a semi-final playoff for Euro 2020 if they beat the Israelis. The importance of tonight’s match cannot go underestimated, even if it is going under the radar.

With such a huge opportunity at stake for Scotland, Jack would’ve never had a better time to cement himself. The Rangers star has had a tough time winning over Scotland fans. He was infamously booed up at Pittodrie for Scotland, and subsequently had a tough shift against Belgium.
He’s the player the Scotland supporters just love to hate for some reason. Yet, if he had been able to play a part in reaching the playoffs, it would’ve done him the world of good. He wouldn’t have been loved by every Scot, but perhaps finally respected the way he should be.
It would’ve done wonders
Jack loves playing for his country, but he doesn’t get the respect he should for it. This double-header could’ve been his moment to step up for his nation and be counted.
There’s also the issue with the amount of call-offs McLeish has been forced to endure. Scotland have seen an incredible NINE players drop out of the squad – Jack, however, was unfortunately one of them.

Had he subsequently managed to keep himself fit, it appears McLeish would’ve stuck by him. There have been plenty of warnings sent out to those who dropped out for minimal reason. Jack wasn’t one of those, and would’ve been in the good books had he managed to stay and partake.
Scotland will take to the field tonight at Hampden looking to make history. It isn’t a playoff final at stake, but it is indeed a playoff. Scotland haven’t reached one of those in a long time, and the players will be lauded for it if they make it.
Jack could’ve seriously done with being one of those players. Instead, however, he’s likely going to have to deal with the same scapegoat nonsense he usually does when he gets his next call-up.
