Over 10,000 Rangers fans travelled to Vienna for a party. Only Ryan Jack, amongst a few others, seemed to get the memo.
The Rangers midfielder was everywhere in the first half. He was snapping into tackles, he was smart and composed in possession, he was actually superb.
On such an important night, Jack was more than up for it. He didn’t give any player a second and his energy allowed us to at least create outlets. In the middle of the park at times, it was like he owned it.
As you can tell, I was very impressed. Tonight he showed just how big a player he can be for Rangers.
This was a massive occasion. Whilst many hid, Jack stood up. I was surprised Gerrard took him off for Lafferty, he was holding the team together.
It was probably because he was on a yellow, but the decision didn’t work out. The other potential substitute Ross McCrorie lost his man for Rapid’s goal.
But nonetheless, if I had to pick a player for Rangers’s man of the match, it’d be Ryan Jack.
He was positive tonight. Something I think he’s capable of being. But he didn’t lose any of the aggression or ruggedness we need.
The woodwork might’ve halted Rangers progress, but going on tonight’s performance, Ryan Jack will be a big player for us going forward.
