Ryan Jack claims Rangers midfielder has really improved under Clement

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has praised the improvement of teammate John Lundstram since the appointment of Philippe Clement.

Rangers picked up another win under Philippe Clement this afternoon, beating Livingston 2-0 away from home.

Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring for Rangers after James Tavernier had fired a penalty wide of the post.

Tavernier made amends after the break, slotting home from the spot after a handball inside the box.

That’s four league wins in a row for Clement and momentum really seems to be building at Ibrox.

Ryan Jack hails John Lundstram improvement

Rangers look so much better under Clement, both in and out of possession.

Clement has mostly played a 4-2-3-1 system so far, featuring Ryan Jack and John Lundstram as sitting midfielders.

The pair are experienced performers and are currently giving Rangers a strong base in the middle of the pitch.

Jack has now offered his verdict on Lundstram, who joined Rangers from Sheffield United back in 2021.

Jack told the Daily Record that he has always got on well with Lundstram, feeling that he is a ‘top guy’.

The former Aberdeen man added that Lundstram has had his ‘ups and downs’ this season but is really performing better under Clement, hailing him as a ‘big leader’.

“Since John came in, I’ve got on really well with him – he’s a top guy. This season, he’s had his ups and downs, like all of us,” said Jack. “But since the new manager has come in, stride by stride, his performances have been better. He’s a big leader in the changing room and a big part of the squad.”

“John loves playing here so I’m sure at some point the club will talk to him too. But at the moment we just need to focus on winning games. When the club wants to sit down with us, it will happen,” he added.

Rangers will soon face Lundstram decision

As Jack highlights there, both he and Lundstram are out of contract at the end of the season.

Lundstram will turn 30 in February and Rangers will now have to figure out if a new deal is the right move.

Rangers won’t want to be on the hook for too long but may believe that Lundstram can still be a solid contributor for another couple of years.

Keeping that experience and leadership around younger midfielders like Jose Cifuentes and Nicolas Raskin may be vital.

Clement appears to like Lundstram and we may well see him and Jack earn new deals in 2024 having made strong starts under the new regime.
