Ryan Giggs hails the work done by Steven Gerrard at Rangers

Steven Gerrard has been given huge words of encouragement by Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

The pair clashed on many occasions in the heated Liverpool vs Man United fixture. Giggs is renowned as one of the most successful players to have graced English football. The Welshman won 13 Premier League titles and 34 trophies at United during his 24-year association with the Red Devils.

Now managing Wales, Giggs has been talking extensively about his long-time rival Gerrard. The Rangers manager has made an incredible start to life at Ibrox, cutting the points gap with Celtic down to two and securing European football for the first time since 2010.

Giggs has been full of praise for the achievement, and spoke at length about Gerrard’s start to life in Govan.

““It’s good to see him going in to management – and it’s great to see him doing well. He spent some time at the Liverpool academy but it’s brilliant to see him make that jump. It’s a huge job at Rangers but he has made a great start.

“Steven has got off to a solid start. He has had some great results, particularly in Europe. I watched the semi-final against Aberdeen and they were very unlucky. On any other day they would have won that game.

“He is a young coach making his way in the game and you want to see the likes of Steven and Frank Lampard at Derby being successful because we are all in similar situations.”

High praise

Giggs is simply the latest in a long line of big-names to have praised the work of Gerrard since he took over at Rangers. The Welshman has been impressed with how Gerrard has Rangers playing, and the Rangers manager should take heart from that.

That’s because Giggs himself has made a fine start to his managerial career with Wales. Results have been mixed, but home and away wins against the Republic of Ireland shows that he’s continuing the good work done by Chris Coleman.

There seems to be a new small clique of British managers that have come from the Premier League to make an impact. Gerrard is one of them, whilst Giggs and Frank Lampard are the other two.

The Rangers manager certainly hasn’t looked out of place in the dugout. He has the high standards you would expect from an English Premier League legend, and is making his mark nicely in Scotland.

He has the backing of everyone at Ibrox, and evidently the backing of Giggs too.
